Default Something Sort of Interesting

While browsing through here and the OGaming forum I noticed this:

The total people online at once amount. This forum has been up for maybe 20 hours now, and already beat their record.

Just that was sort of interesting.

Yeah, that was a bit puzzling. But, we think it was some web spider trawling through here rather than a massive influx of people.

Although we're not doing too badly there, either, of course...

Is it those damn webcrawlers that are always messing up the most users online thing? I wish that could be fixed somehow so it wouldn't keep messing up the stats.

Well, as much as I'd like to think that we've almost broke 200 people online at one time not a day since launch, seeing as there's only 101 registered users so far, it seems unrealistic to have 198 people here at one time. Nonetheless, I've been amazed at the turnout so far, and expect(hope) that we'll be getting those numbers for real in the not-too-distant future

If you refresh a page when you're not logged in, it counts you as another user. Hell if I know why.

Are you sure? I just logged out and refreshed a bunch of times and it still showed me as the only guest.

Must be some quirky bug [maybe from the arcade] - 600 visitors today total and vb3 definately ignores search engine spiders when counting people online

Guests ... Most forums it's very common for there to be more guests online than members. That includes forums where it is required to become a member before you can post.

People might be double counted if they arrive as a guest and then login as a member... though IIRC, vb3 does recognise when that happens.

It's entirely within the realms of possibility these forums picked up that many users. There's been a lot of people waiting to see this site (), and links to it have appeared at some of the larger sites. Curiosity dragged in a dead cat, or something .

Meh, could be wrong. Maybe we really were that popular or something. Certainly can't argue with that result. =)

Peace,

Freyas- Are you so quick to doubt? Come now... with such a stellar cast, how could this movie possibly gross less than $200 million?

I mean... never mind.

Oooo, it just happened again. Sadly we fell one or two users short of breaking the old record, but someone or something just bombarded the forum with 200+ guest hits - all from the same root IP - by browsing through all the profiles and threads...

Weird.

It could be MSN's search engine. I heard they crawl like crazy these days trying to fight google.

Well you never know, now that we've got another beta event coming up, there will be an influx of new people wanting to find out about this game their going to play. Mind you I'm not sure where GW pre-buy sales are, but just listening to a bunch of the new people here wanting to find out about the game before they play the next weekend; I imagine that like at the last beta there will be a spike in the number of people here.
